Why most people fail at Wordle
Wordle isn't about vocabulary. Most people who fail know plenty of 5-letter words. They fail because they guess randomly instead of strategically — wasting guesses on letters they already know are wrong, or missing obvious eliminations.
The winning approach is simple: use your first 2 guesses to eliminate as many letters as possible, then use the remaining guesses to zero in on the answer.
The best Wordle starting words
Your first word should contain the most common English letters. Statistically, the best starting words cover E, A, R, I, O, T, N, S — the letters that appear most frequently in 5-letter words.

Hits 4 vowels in one guess — great for vowel elimination

The 3-step strategy that wins every time
Guess 1 — Maximum letter coverage
Use your best starting word (CRANE, SLATE, or RAISE). Goal: find out which letters exist in the word and which positions they occupy.
Guess 2 — Eliminate remaining common letters
Based on your first guess results, play a second word that covers different common letters you haven't tested yet. POUTY, LYMPH, or WHISK work well as second guesses.
Guesses 3–6 — Zero in with what you know
Now use the confirmed letters (green and yellow) to narrow down candidates. Only guess words that fit ALL known constraints — never waste a guess on a word you know is wrong.

Right letter, right position. Lock it in — this letter is confirmed.
